First Floor Slab Construction:
The first floor slab construction was divided in to two parts. The erection of falsewaork was started from the southern end progressing northwards. The use of Waffle moulds in the formwork was a typical feature of the slab construction. The concreting of the slab was done in two stages. After the initial set, curing was continued for four days. The Falswork was kept till the construction of the third floor. The V Columns support the first floor slab. The slab construction sequence will be the same till the 9th Floor of the building.
Falsework:
The falswork was erected from the southern end extending towards north. The falsework is kept till the third floor. In the location of the waffles, the falsework will be left 2.4m lower than a soffit of the slab. A platform will be formed using soldiers, onto which light scaffold will be erected. The U heads, which will be used to facilitate the striking of the soffit, yet allow the slab to remain propped. The waffle moulds (1200-x 1200-mm) will be set out onto the light scaffold. The surveyor will check the grid for the squareness. Tape 50mm thick will be used to neatly seal the joints.
Reinforcement:
After setting out the slab by the surveyor, the steel fixers will commence fixing of the reinforcement to the first floor. All wall starter bars and column starters will be fixed and their position is checked. As the areas of reinforcement are completed, side forms to the beams will be positioned and secured. Cast in items such as the drainage reserve to the waffle slab will be positioned and secured.
Concreting:
The concreting of the first floor slab was divided into three pours. The pour sequence was the southern section, the central core area, and then the northern section. Prior to concreting each pour is inspected. The concrete was placed in strips across the pour, ensuring the loading face is kept 'live' at all times. The tower crane with a skip bucket placed the concrete (D35 grade). The southern section of the slab was concreted in one day.
